Willy Chirino sang to parents on their day

With a song dedicated to his father, his greatest hits, and a group of special guests, Cuban salsa singer Willy Chirino performed at The Fillmore Theater Miami Beach to celebrate Father's Day last Saturday, June 15th.

"We have been celebrating it for four or five years now, and on this occasion I included Para mi viejo, a song that I dedicated to the memory of my father in which I express all the love I feel for him. Although he has not been with us since 1980, for me he continues to be the one who instilled in me the importance of discipline, a tool that has served me to move forward in my musical career for almost half a century," said Chirino, who remembers his father as a man attentive to all aspects of his life, who suggested he study advertising and marketing at Miami Dade College so that he would have a secure profession.

During the musical jam session, "which has already become a tradition," songs like Pa'lante, Medias negras, Soy guajiro and Ya viene llegando were heard, as well as a group of songs that he decided to dust off, such as Demasiado, Rumbera and Hábleme de Jatibonico.

Among other news, the salsa singer announced his version of Esos locos bajitos, a song by Joan Manuel Serrat, which he dedicates to his five grandchildren.

Willy is the father of Angie, Olgui, Jessica, Nicole, Alana and Gianfranco. With the exception of the last two, the rest accompany him in an acoustic segment in which they revisit Aquellos ojos verdes, Inolvidable, Nosotros and a long list of classics from the Cuban romantic songbook.

"The birth of my children is one of the most important events that have occurred in my life. They keep me grounded because they tell me things without beating around the bush," said the singer, after confessing that he calls them several times a day to tell them how much he loves them.

"It satisfies me to see how they love each other despite having different mothers. I think music keeps us more united."

The program was completed with the participation of Cuban singer Aymée Nuviola, "an artist with extraordinary talent and very beloved by the public, with whom I have shared the stage on other occasions."
