Former baseball player Víctor Mesa, who recently returned to Cuba after three years living in Miami, traveled to his native province of Villa Clara, where one of his daughters resides and a large part of his wife's family, Eneida Ríos.
"With the best 32 of Villa Clara, the best 32 of Cuba. With the best baseball director the country has ever produced. Visiting his native land through La Villa del Undoso, Víctor Mesa", wrote a fan on Facebook along with a photo in which he posed with the popular and controversial former Cuban athlete.
In the photo in question, you can see Víctor Mesa wearing a sweater with the Cuban flag, sporting a striking hat and holding an enormous cigar in his left hand.
The image generated comments of praise and celebration from followers of Víctor Mesa, 65 years old, who after his retirement from active sports was director of the Villa Clara, Matanzas and Industriales teams, as well as Team Cuba.
Last week the sports portal Swing Completo revealed that Víctor Mesa arrived on the island on Friday, April 8 accompanied by his wife, and that both made a first stop of several days at their residence in Havana, located in the vicinity of Lennon Park, in El Vedado.
Víctor Mesa's stay in Cuba could mean that he resolved his immigration status in the United States. On December 3 last, the YouTube channel La Voz de Vueltabajo, from Pinar del Río, reported that the authorities of that country had denied the residency application of the former baseball player in the United States and that he would appeal the decision.
After several months, Víctor Mesa's return to Cuba reveals that his claim could have been resolved favorably for the former baseball player.
Víctor Mesa settled in Florida in October 2018 after definitively saying goodbye to Cuban baseball and after his sons, Víctor Víctor and Victor Jr., signed million-dollar contracts with Miami Marlins, where they still perform in the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA) and Beloit Sky Carp (A+) affiliates, respectively, within the franchise.
Víctor Víctor Mesa signed for 5.25 million dollars and Víctor Mesa Jr. for one million.
Víctor Mesa Jr. was on a five-day visit to Cuba in January of this year. On social media he shared images where he was seen with friends and with the part of his family that still resides on the Island. "Grateful for the family I have. I love you. You are my life", he wrote.
