In his second foray into professional boxing, Cuban Olympic two-time champion Julio César La Cruz defeated Argentine Juan Juárez today by technical knockout at the El Porvenir club in Quilmes, in the province of Buenos Aires.
In the cruiserweight category scheduled for six rounds, La Cruz demonstrated his technical superiority and his victory was declared in the fourth round. Although Juárez has experience in the professional scene, he was unable to recover after the third confrontation.
La Cruz won his second Olympic crown by triumphing in the 91 kilograms category at the Tokyo 2020 games and his fifth world title by winning in the 92 kilos division at the Belgrade tournament.
The captain of the Cuban squad was initially set to face local fighter Maximiliano Corzo, but the organizers announced the change, which responded to the interest in assigning an opponent of higher rank.
Juárez shows a positive record of 20 wins (14 knockouts) and seven losses, better than the 6-8-1 that Corzo was displaying.
