UNESCO has formally created the Iberoamerican Dance Chair «Alicia Alonso», attached to Rey Juan Carlos University, in Spain, thereby opening a new avenue of international cooperation in the field of training and research in university-level dance education and other related artistic genres, as well as the study and preservation of intangible heritage in this discipline.
The approved project involves the collaboration of different Spanish and Hispanic American institutions.
Rey Juan Carlos University, in Madrid, has been hosting for several years the Dance Institute "Alicia Alonso", an entity that proposed to UNESCO the creation of the chair that is now being founded.
