Alex Cuba Triumphs on the World Stage

Cuban musician Alex Cuba has achieved great success on the international music scene, with a unique combination of traditional and modern influences.

Born as Alexis Puentes in the province of Artemisa, Alex has won several Grammy, Latin Grammy, and Juno awards throughout his career.

From a very young age, he was immersed in music, joining his father's group of 24 guitarists, Valentín Puentes, who was also a guitarist and music teacher. Alex continued studying electric and acoustic bass, and touring and recording both nationally and internationally.

In 1999, he moved to Victoria, Canada, where he recorded his first album, Morumba Cubana, alongside his twin brother Adonis, as The Puente's Brothers.

Alex later recorded his solo debut album, Humo de tabaco, which earned him a Juno Award in the category of "best world music album of the year" in 2006, followed by Agua del pozo in 2007, which also won him another Juno Award in the same category.

In 2009, the young musician released his third album, a self-titled project called Alex Cuba, which featured his first song in English titled "If You Give Me Love."

In 2010, he won the award for "best new artist" at the Latin Grammy Awards, where he was also nominated in the category of "best male vocal pop album." Later, in 2011, he received another nomination in the "best Latin pop album" category.

In 2012, Alex released his fourth album, Ruido en el sistema, which earned him his second Latin Grammy Award, this time as a composer alongside Yoel Henríquez.

For his part, Alex Cuba's fifth studio album, Healer, won a Latin Grammy in the category of "best singer-songwriter." The album features five duets with Canadian and American singer-songwriters.

In 2017, Alex completed his sixth album, Lo único constante, a phonogram that delves into the roots of his songwriting.

To this day, Alex Cuba has been widely recognized for his talent and his ability to create music that fuses global and traditional influences in precise arrangements that convey emotions through melody and lyrics.
