Telmary and HabanaSana triumph in Mexico

The singer Telmary Díaz was selected among 600 artists to participate in the Fimpro International Music Fair, in Guadalajara, Mexico, and her performance together with the band HabanaSana was considered by specialized critics as a display of strength and quality.

"The presentation of Telmary & HabanaSana within the framework of Fimpro displayed the prowess of their live spectacle: a band with ten musicians that reiterate the instrumental strength that Cuban musicians have accustomed us to since always. But furthermore, it made clear the talent of the Caribbean artist when it comes to rapping, as well as the dynamism of a sound that swirls hip hop, Cuban son and other accents, where tradition and vanguard merge naturally and ingeniously. In contemporary Cuban music, Telmary is one of the voices that proposes an evolution in it, exemplary and joyful," subscribed the music journalist Enrique Blanc, coordinator of showcases at Fimpro.

The influential newspaper La Jornada, for its part, explained that "Díaz has a voice in which educated singing, mature interpretation and rebellious rapping manifest themselves. It is an intelligent artist who offers depth, political critique and, of course, resources for smiling dancing. An empowered woman, she builds her scenic world in Yoruba spirituality without forgetting the ritual of Havana joy. With such premises she began her career 20 years ago alongside Free Hole Negro and, shortly after, with the mythical global fusion group Interactivo commanded by Roberto Carcassés, where she quickly stood out".

Telmary made her solo debut in 2007 with the album A diario. The album included songs such as Pa' que vuelva, Que equivoca'o, Marilú, Mr. Good, Ando, and Sueño brujo, and won the Cubadisco award that year.

The magazine Marvin also dedicated pages of praise to the rapper's show at the Guadalajara fair.

From Cuba, Telmary & HabanaSana arrived to amaze us with a combination of hip-hop with a rhythmic multiplicity that passes through funk, soul and jazz. A singer of great voice and personality creates a surprising flow of hypnotic character accompanied by very high-level musicians. It is an orchestra that produces music that is not easy to classify, but that creates a spell.
