After 8 years since his last visit to Mexico, Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will perform at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City on June 6 at 8:30 pm, in a single show.
At the concert, attendees will be able to enjoy the presentation of his latest album "Para la espera" dedicated to seven friends who died between March and April of 2020, for different reasons and in different places around the world: Tupac Pinilla, Juan Padrón, Luis Eduardo Aute, César López, Luis Sepúlveda, Marcos Mundstock and Óscar Chávez.
"It has been tremendous –he laments. And all of them like that: one after another, the last two months. Tupac and Padroncito, the first to leave, were immense to me. Tupac was also my editor, a brilliant mind, and Padroncito was my friend since the early 60s, in the days of the Mella weekly magazine". César López, a reference point of our poetry and patriotism; Luis Sepúlveda, a great writer and a wonderful person; Marcos Mundstock, an essential part of that monument to intelligence that is Les Luthiers; Óscar Chávez, a Mexican minstrel, companion in so many good causes", describes Silvio Rodríguez in Segunda cita, his personal blog.
Among the pieces are Jugábamos a Dios (2010) for the credits of the film Afinidades, Viene la cosa (2016) and Noche sin fin y mar (2017) and the remaining songs are unreleased with titles such as, Aunque no quiero, veo que me alejo, Conteo atrás, Si Lucifer volviera al paraíso, Una sombra, Los aliviadores, Después de vivir, Modo frigio, Danzón para la espera, La adivinanza and Página final; the latter instrumental.
At the presentation at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico he will be accompanied by the group Trovarroco, (Rachid López and Maikel Elizarde) flutist and clarinetist Niurka González and Oliver Valdés on drums and percussion, as well as Jorge Reyes on double bass, Jorge Aragón on piano and Emilio Vega on vibraphone.
