Silvio Rodríguez Surveys Five Decades of Songs at Valencia's Roig Arena

Cuban trovador Silvio Rodríguez played a nearly two-hour concert at Valencia's Roig Arena on September 16, 2026, the fourth stop on his Spanish tour after Barcelona, Zaragoza and Bilbao. At 79, he moved through more than five decades of work before an enthusiastic crowd.

Early-career pieces included "Sueño con serpientes," "Pequeña serenata diurna" and "Quien fuera," plus staples such as "Escaramujo" and "Ala de colibrí." High points were "Eva," "El necio" and "La belleza," the last sung with his wife, musician Niurka González, and their daughter Malva Rodríguez. Newer songs — "Historia de las sillas," "Noche sin fin y mar," "Viene la cosa" and "Nuestro después" — shared the bill, and he recited Luis Rogelio Nogueras's poem "Halt!"

He closed with "Ojalá" and "Por quien merece amor." Valencia opens the second half of the tour, which continues through A Coruña, Seville and Murcia before wrapping October 4 at Madrid's Movistar Arena.

===BODY=== He was born in San Antonio de los Baños, province of La Habana, Cuba. His father was Dagoberto Rodríguez Ortega, from Vereda Nueva who as a child was an agricultural worker; during World War II he cut diamonds and later was an upholsterer and cabinetmaker. His mother is Argelia Domínguez León, daughter of a family of 11 siblings, some of them workers in the tobacco industry and almost all with musical vocation.
