Silvio Rodríguez and Illapu lead international tribute to Violeta Parra

October 3, 2020

This Sunday, October 4th, will celebrate a new birthday of the legendary singer-songwriter Violeta Parra. The celebrations will not be limited only to Chile, since there is already an international tribute confirmed.

It is "Violeta universal," a cultural encounter of several nations that is structured around three axes: the academic, the poetic, and the musical. It is in this latter where Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez will be participating along with Víctor Heredia and Vicente Feliú.

In the musical segment, the group Illapu will also participate, Portuguese fado singer Zé Perdigão, Argentine singer-songwriter Georgina Hassan, Chilean troubadour Eduardo Peralta, the folk group Dúo Finares, and Chileans Luciana Ortega and Javier Labbé.

"The main objective of this tribute in commemoration of the 103rd anniversary of Violeta Parra's birth is to honor her by incorporating voices and reflections from diverse cultures, to know how the expansive force of her work is perceived and valued beyond our borders," assured Berenice Ojeda, the organizer of this event.

In the academic field, Spanish poet Ramón García Mateos and Chilean musicologist Patricia Díaz will participate, who will dissect the work of Violeta Parra and account for why her work had worldwide repercussions.

Finally, the poetic area will be addressed by Cuban improviser Alexis Díaz Pimienta and Chilean payador Hugo González Hernández.

"Violeta universal" will be broadcast through its Facebook page starting at 19:00 hours on October 4th.
