Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez will donate the proceeds from his next two concerts in Madrid to the solidarity organization Medicuba-España, as well as the fee for the XIX Leteo Prize, which will be presented to him on the 27th in the city of León.

Silvio will perform a first concert this Sunday, September 26, at the closing of the PCE Festival (Communist Party of Spain), in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, following the Central Act for the Centenary of said party. The second concert will be at the Wizink Center in Madrid, on October 2, as part of his tour «La espera terminó».

The funds from both concerts will be used by Medicuba-España to purchase medicines, mainly antibiotics, antipyretics and anti-inflammatories, for the public health system of the Island, which suffers from an acute shortage of supplies, due to the combined effect of the latest 243 new economic blockade measures by the US government and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Medicuba-España is an NGDO that, together with 53 other solidarity entities, makes up the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC), recently created.

This MESC currently promotes various fundraising and medical material collection campaigns to support the Cuban people, in addition to constant initiatives to publicly denounce the blockade of Cuba by the US government, which has been condemned on 29 occasions by the United Nations General Assembly.

The MESC, for example, carried out, before the summer, a successful fundraising campaign for the acquisition of four million syringes, aimed at supporting the current mass vaccination process on the Island. Cuba is currently the country with the fastest rate of mass vaccination in the world, and the first to initiate it in children between two and 18 years of age.

Troubadour Silvio Rodríguez has emphasized to Cubainformación TV that his initiative to donate funds is not an isolated gesture, but rather is part of the effort of the MESC, Medicuba and hundreds of solidarity organizations around the world, to support the Cuban people in the current circumstances of material scarcity, as well as to denounce the unjust and illegal blockade it suffers, which brutally impacts its living conditions and the exercise of its human rights.
