Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will be in charge of closing the Centenary Festival, which will commemorate the one hundred years since the founding of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).

The author of anthological songs such as "Ojalá" and "Te doy una canción" will offer a "solidarity concert" on Sunday, "which can be attended by purchasing a two-euro ticket, with proceeds going entirely to Medicuba projects," according to Spanish press reports.

These funds, they add, will be used "to send medicines and medical supplies to Cuban hospitals," at a time when the Caribbean country is going through its worst situation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The information does not specify how these medicines and supplies will be acquired, nor does it detail how they will be delivered to the Island, although Medicuba has extensive experience in importing and transporting this type of products to Cuba, as well as the support of non-governmental organizations and solidarity groups associated with this purpose.

The PCE Centenary Festival will take place next weekend — from Friday, September 24 to Sunday, September 26 — at the Miguel Ríos auditorium in Rivas Vaciamadrid, in the Spanish capital. During it, several political and cultural events will take place, and the presence of important political and union leaders from the Iberian nation is expected.

Among those invited are the leaders of the four forces that make up the Unidas Podemos coalition: Alberto Garzón (IU), Ione Belarra (Podemos), Gerardo Pisarello (CeC) and Juantxo López de Uralde (Alianza Verde), who will "gather to address the challenges and future of popular unity politics."

Also expected to attend is the second vice president of the government and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, and former Spanish vice president and former leader of Unidas Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, who will attend a public event for the first time since his resignation last May.

The following weekend, specifically Saturday, October 2, another Silvio Rodríguez concert is planned in Madrid. This will be at the WiZink Center, in a single and exclusive performance, in which he will perform songs from his album Para la espera, released in 2020, along with classics from his vast and acclaimed discography.

At that performance in the Spanish capital, titled "La espera terminó," Silvio will be accompanied by the group Trovarroco, flutist and clarinetist Niurka González and Oliver Valdés on drums and percussion, as well as Jorge Reyes on bass, Jorge Aragón on piano and Emilio Vega on vibraphone.
