Silvio Rodríguez Announces His Next Album, "Quería Saber", for June

With this new production, the 77-year-old Cuban musician adds 22 studio albums to his career.

Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will release in June "Quería Saber", his first record production in three years and which includes songs composed during this "battered" century, his Ojalá studios reported this Thursday.

"Next Friday, June 7, the album Quería saber, by Silvio Rodríguez, will be presented on the main digital music platforms", Ojalá stated in a statement published on the blog Zurrón del Aprendiz, by the famous artist.

According to the document, before the release, Rodríguez's followers, 77 years old and founder of the New Cuban Trova, will be able to get two singles: "Quería saber", on May 24, and "América", seven days later. It is the 22nd album of Rodríguez's extensive career, author of anthological songs such as "La era está pariendo un corazón" and "Ojalá".

The only song on the album "that is not from this century" is "Tonada para dos poemas de Rubén Martínez Villena", a prominent Cuban writer and revolutionary who lived between 1899 and 1934, whose music he composed in the early 1970s.

"The other songs, the current ones, I sang them in many neighborhood concerts, and I think they are like this young and battered century, which I hope will grow wings one day", Rodríguez says in the statement, referring to the more than 100 recitals he performed between 2010 and 2020 to bring his music to the most humble neighborhoods of the country.

The artist also reflects on the title of the album: "It's difficult to name an album". "First it was going to be Songs of the 21st Century (minus one). Then I thought about "After". Finally, I have decided on "Quería saber". Although perhaps it should be called "Quiero saber", because that is what moves me", he pointed out.

According to a statement from Ojalá Studios, where the recording was made between 2019 and 2024, the singles Quería saber and América will be available on May 24 and 31, respectively.

It is worth mentioning that his last record production dates from 2021 when he presented "Silvio Rodríguez con Diákara", according to Zurrón del Aprendiz.
