The documentary Silvio Rodríguez: mi primera tarea, by American filmmaker Catherine Murphy, will arrive on the screens of the Buenos Aires International Festival (Fidba 2020) on September 24th.
The piece, approximately 25 minutes long, in which the filmmaker invites the viewer to an exclusive and intimate interview with the Cuban troubadour alongside historic images from the 1961 Literacy Campaign in his country, is one of the 15 works that make up the Foco Música section of the festival, which began online on September 9th.
Through the festival's webpage https://fidba.org/2020/, Argentines and all those who access the programming will be able to enjoy the documentary for free from September 24th through September 30th at the following address: https://www.fidba.org/2020/programa/silvio-rodriguez-mi-primera-tarea/
In this piece, Murphy delves into the life of the author of La era esta pariendo un corazón and Oleo de mujer con sombrero, who became an icon of Ibero-American music, during that stage filled with emotions and unique moments when at just 14 years old he enlisted as a volunteer to join a brigade of over 100,000 teenagers in the literacy campaign following the triumph of the Revolution.
"For the first time in my life, I left my family and took on a social cause as an active member of society and it marked me," says the Cuban troubadour in this exclusive dialogue, adding that "perhaps this first adventure is what put me on a path of social consciousness that has defined me as a human being."
The documentary will also arrive on American screens on September 20th in Chicago, from the platform of the cultural center HotHouse, with live streaming from the pages https://www.twitch.tv/hothouseglobal and through facebook, and its premiere will be accompanied by a tribute concert to Rodríguez.
The show, organized by HotHouse, will be titled Silvio Rodríguez. El poder de la palabra, and will bring together online the Mexican Lila Downs, the Peruvian Susana Baca, the Cuban Kelvis Ochoa, among others.
