After a year without returning, young Cuban actor and singer Sian Chiong arrived yesterday in Cuba from Mexico City, where he carries out much of his artistic projects. He is in Havana to participate in the premiere of his first film project released on the Island. It is, nothing more and nothing less, than Farándula The Movie.
And if the name of the film seems familiar to you from theater, don't worry, you're right. It is an adaptation of the work Farándula, by Cuban actor, director and playwright Jazz Vilá, a production through which several generations of actors have passed, both established and young faces of the current Cuban scene and from other nations.
Sian, who also had the opportunity to participate as an actor in the theatrical work, told Cuba Noticias 360 exclusively about this experience on the big screen: "It was something that surprised me. I was doing the theater work in the United States and, suddenly, Jazz tells me they were going to make the movie and that I was included in the cast. When we started to do the entire creative process, for me it was something very rewarding, because we were already doing it in theater.
"It was just a matter of transposing the tone that is worked in theater to cinema, which has a different tone. It was incredible to work with different actors from different nationalities like Scarlet Ortiz (Helena) from Venezuela, Mikel Fajardo (Lorenzo), from Spain and well Alina Roberts (Sara), who like me (Yoyo), is Cuban. I had a great time."
"This is my first movie that premieres here in Cuba. I'm very excited about that and nervous at the same time," says Sian, minutes after landing in Cuba. The young man assured that his parents will accompany him at the premiere of Jazz Vilá's directorial debut, this Friday, March 3rd at Cine Chaplin.
"Defined as contradictory, amazing and controversial, the comedy based on Vilá's homonymous theatrical production narrates the story of a gay photographer who seeks through God to end the doubts about his undocumented lover and who, in the midst of his torment, creates a secret exhibition financed by his best friend, a prestigious doctor who struggles with a serious addiction," describes the announcement of the film's premiere.
We remember Sian from a music group called Los Ángeles, which reached high levels of popularity at the time. In 2018, already established outside of Cuba, he participated in the Mexican telenovela Like playing the role of Alan. Later came El corazón nunca se equivoca and Súbete a mi moto in 2020. Recently, in 2022, he returned to television with the leading youth role in the telenovela Corazón guerrero as Adrián Guerrero.
The Cuban actor is received at the airport by several journalists, and representatives of the Solarte SRL Transportation agency, who have joined this Jazz Vilá project to support the transfer of artists in a comfortable and safe manner.
This company, with more than four years since its founding, is already established as a Mipyme. They currently operate through WhatsApp groups, but among their projections is to create a mobile application: "Customers write there and there is a system of organized managers, which we call constellations. There are three constellations that rotate every six hours and cover the twenty-four hours of the day. Some customers occasionally call us too without entering the WhatsApp," reflects José Martínez Ortega, general director of Solarte.
From its very name, a clear intention to connect with art is reflected. The concept they defend is to provide customers with an experience, which is also why their focus is on promoting clients interested in cultural tourism in a Caribbean context like Cuba's. Their transportation service offers a very wide range: moves with groups of trucks, convertible groups, groups of regular cars, comfort cars, minibuses and others.
