The extensive and fruitful day celebrating Cuban Son Day, May 8th, which began Monday, May 3rd and extended through Sunday, May 9th, has had pleasant repercussions and exceeded expectations, according to maestro Adalberto Álvarez.

The 2008 National Music Prize meant that the activities have left him very pleased and even somewhat amazed.

May 8th has ceased to be Cuban Son Day to become Son Day in the world, because we constantly receive videos and greetings from everywhere, he argued.

It fills him with great joy and emotion to see how this has been gaining strength across all ages. It's as if people had been waiting for this to happen, as if they were saying finally it's here!, expressed the Cuban musician, composer, arranger and orchestra director.

Following the dedication on the aforementioned date, coinciding with the birthdays of renowned son singers Miguel Matamoros and Miguelito Cuní, the organization of these festivities did not have COVID-19 as an impediment, since concerts and events focused on social networks, radio and television were held in a perfectly coordinated manner.

Declaring son as Cuban Intangible Heritage was only the first step toward a higher goal, added the prolific and enthusiastic son singer, while stating: It seems to me that with these solid foundations we are laying, we will also achieve the second step, which is to declare it Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

For 2022, both the date of the beloved genre and Mother's Day, which in Cuba is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, will coincide, and the maestro is already devising things that will amplify the celebrations in a framework of gratitude for she who gave us life, and hopefully, with many reasons to celebrate, above all, life itself.

As if that weren't enough, Havana residents will be able to settle their debt with Ignacio Piñeiro, as the 95th anniversary of the founding of the legendary Septeto Nacional approaches, another of the indisputable schools of son in Cuba.

In 2023 the 135th anniversary of the birth of the creator of Échale Salsita and Suavecito will be remembered, but I would not like to wait. Next year we could begin honoring Piñeiro with all the material that can be compiled. His work is immense, he advanced.

Adalberto Álvarez stated that the initiatives to honor son do not end this Saturday the 8th or tomorrow the 9th of May, since one must be thinking about future editions.

We have faith and hope that for next year we will have other conditions, and celebrate this great party as it was originally dreamed, throughout our island, with everyone in the streets, dancing son, he concluded.
