Rosita Fornés (New York, 1923) is stable and "improvement in her health condition is expected," according to sources close to Rey González, who manages the vedette's official Facebook page, on Sunday.

"Her admirers, friends and family hope that she recovers once again and can bring joy to our souls for much longer," González wrote on the social network.

On Saturday it was learned that Rosita Fornés was in serious health condition in Miami, where she has been living for some time. Information shared on her official profile stated that in recent months it had been necessary to hospitalize her several times for respiratory problems, according to the statement.

The 97-year-old artist is currently with her closest family and friends, although no further details are known.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it became known that Rosita Fornés was following medical instructions to the letter to avoid possible contagion of the disease and therefore spent quarantine in the city of Miami. The artist herself explained that she was not receiving visits on doctors' orders.

La Rosa de Cuba, as she is also known, is one of the most important figures in Cuban culture. Her work in film, musical theater, television and music place her as an indispensable star of the island.

The artist's last major appearance was at the anniversary celebration of Maestro Meme Solís's 60 years of artistic career. At that ceremony she was carrying a small oxygen tank to help her breathe, in case she needed it at any moment. With her professionalism no one noticed that, although she sang, joked and looked as magnificent as always, her lungs were already affected.

Rosita has been hospitalized several times in recent months.

The public has not known for how many moments this dedicated artist has had to go through surgery for different health problems from the 90s until today. She always came through, recovered when many of us thought she could no longer perform or walk. The willpower she has had has given her the strength to have one of the longest careers in the history of a singer, actress, dancer, ... of a great vedette.

She has never thrown in the towel. With the faith in God that has always characterized her, I have the hope that I can soon tell you, write to you, in another post here, about her return home with her family.
