The Álbum Kafé of the Egreem in the Santiago municipality of Palma Soriano was the place chosen to present the book Estela Rodríguez Villanueva, the ebony of Cuban women's judo, from Editorial Deportes 2017, by authors Ronaldo Veitía Valdivie and Cándido Pérez Agüero.
Preceded by a floral offering to Cuba's National Hero José Martí in the park that bears his name, Ronaldo Veitía and Estela Rodríguez explained details of the work and exchanged sports experiences and anecdotes with those present.
Professor Veitía, Master of Science, noted that Estela deserves this book and much more, since she was the one who became the first champion of Cuban women's judo and initiator of the great international successes of this sport for women on the Island.
On the other hand, Estela Rodríguez, 50 years old and from La Ceiba, in the City of the Cauto River, stated that she was fulfilling her dream by dedicating this presentation to the people of Palma, who saw her grow and triumph.
Lovers and followers of Santiago sports did not want to miss the occasion. Authorities from the Party, the Government, and Inder from the province and the municipality recognized with diplomas, flowers, and congratulations these two great figures of Cuban sports, in addition to the popular celebration that could not contain itself in greeting them, asking for autographs and photos.
Once the book presentation concluded, Estela and professor Veitía, along with the delegation that accompanied them, visited centers of social and economic interest in Palma Soriano.
The super-complete Estela Rodríguez Villanueva was born on November 12, 1967 in Palma Soriano and has two silver medals in Olympic Games (Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996), in addition to a gold, a silver, and a bronze in the open division in the World Championships of Belgrade 1989, Barcelona 1991, and Japan 1995, respectively.
She also holds gold medals in the Pan American Games of La Habana 1991, a silver and another bronze in Indianapolis 1987, and others in continental championships, and Central American and Caribbean Games.
