World Triathlon's appointment fell to Rolando Herrera Agón, technical director of the Havana Triathlon.

The technical director of the Havana Triathlon will be the first Cuban to officiate in this sport at an Olympic Games.

This comes to light when the list of international technical officials who will work at Paris 2024 was made known.

"I'm reading the communication in the middle of my master's degree. Imagine how I feel," he expressed to JIT emotionally, someone who has been vital to the success of the editions held of the Havana Triathlon.

World Triathlon highlighted that 43 national federations will be represented and, for the first time, 50 percent of the selected officials are women, taking another step in the commitment to gender balance within the organization.

"With this selection, we demonstrate once again not only that we have a strong and committed team of officials and staff members, but also that we trust and empower our officials, as we have been doing since our debut at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games," said Spaniard Marisol Casado, president of World Triathlon.

"I know the bar is high, but I am convinced that the commitment, work, and dedication of each and every person on this list will once again be key to making the triathlon and paratriathlon events shine brighter than ever in Paris," she said.

All five continents are represented, with judges from 13 nations officiating at the Olympic or Paralympic Games for the first time. The team will be a mix of specialists with and without experience at this level, which demonstrates the growth of competent officials in recent years, according to the official World Triathlon website.

Twenty-eight experts were chosen to officiate at the Olympic Games and 27 for the Paralympic Games. In both cases, 50 percent are women, which increases the 47 percent at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

All were selected in accordance with World Triathlon's designation rules, a multi-phase process.

"World Triathlon implements a transparent selection process that is designed to ensure that a balanced representation of the most qualified technical officials is present at the Olympic and Paralympic Games," said Gergely Markus, world sports director of triathlon.

The organization also announced that Laura Patti (ITA), Felix Molina (MEX), and Thanos Nikopoulos (GRE) have been named technical delegates for Paris 2024. Nikopoulos will also be technical delegate at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The selection of French officials will be made in due time in accordance with the rules of the organization that governs the sport on the planet.

Paris 2024 will host three medal events for triathlon: men's and women's individual and mixed relay, following the successful debut at Tokyo 2020.

The Paralympics will welcome the largest paratriathlon field in history with 120 athletes competing in 11 medal events.
