Cuba and its sport dressed in the garb of achievement once more, now wrapped in the body of young Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes, who won the gold medal in the long jump at the V Parapan American Games, in the T47 category, with a leap of seven meters and 71 centimeters, which was registered as a world record.
Despite being expected at the stadium of the Unidad Deportiva El Salitre, in Bogotá, the fact is no less extraordinary, for in less than a month the Paralympic champion from Tokyo-2020 puts his name and that of his country in the book of world records. On May 14, the Havana native had stretched, in Italy, to 7.69, which at that moment was also a universal mark.
According to Rudens Tembrás, Jit's correspondent at the competition, the young man fouled on his first attempt, then he posted 7.05 and 7.55 on the board. On the fourth he fell short of six meters, but came back on the fifth with 7.48. A winner since his second attempt, he optimized every detail: concentration, run-up and the drive to the board, which was executed with rigorous precision, to finish with the magical flight in his sixth and final appearance in the competition.
Robiel Sol will be, in just a few days, in Paris, at the World Championship, and he already thinks of flying... to infinity and beyond?
