The Spanish foundation Ibercaja opened its doors on June 23rd to the presentation of the exhibition "Divertimentos" by renowned Cuban artist Roberto Fabelo at the Goya Museum in Zaragoza.

According to the ZaraGozala website, the exhibition, which will be open to the public until September 24th, proposes a deep reflection on the human soul through a selection of 57 works created between 2012 and 2023 that encompass paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

This is the first time that the work of the versatile Cuban artist has come to Zaragoza, in which viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the works and fill them with their own ideas and interpretations, thus creating a personal and unique experience.

The exhibition "Divertimentos" focuses on the artist's Cuban roots and stands out for the use of idyllic and absurd resources, as well as the constant presence of animals that capture the viewer's attention and stimulate their own reflection.

Among the most notable works is the installation "Survivors," located in the courtyard of the central headquarters of the Ibercaja Foundation, where six giant humanized cockroaches represent the relationship between human beings and their subordination to power.

Fabelo uses the representation of animals in his messages and denunciations, creating hybrid and surrealist combinations. His work is influenced by Spanish painter and engraver Francisco de Goya, to whom the exhibition pays homage through "Goya's Dream," a piece created exclusively for this year's exhibition.

Along with Goya, in the "Divertimentos" exhibition, you can discover the painting Leonardo, Eternal Flow, a tribute to the Italian genius of the Renaissance.

Parallel to the exhibition, a guided tour program for all ages will be held, with prior reservation, from Tuesday to Saturday at 10 and 5 p.m., and Sundays only in morning hours.

Additionally, a family activity has been planned under the title "Fabelo and Goya. Fantastic Universes" which will take place on weekends at 12 p.m.

"Divertimentos" will be open to the public at the Museo Goya Zaragoza from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Museum admission is 8 euros, and it is recommended to reserve in advance for guided tours and family activities.

Born in Cuba in 1950, José Roberto Fabelo Pérez is an international artist who since the seventies has developed a fruitful professional career spanning practically all manifestations of visual arts: painter, draftsman, engraver, illustrator, and sculptor.

The artist is considered by many as the Honoré Daumier of contemporary Cuban art, whose works contain references to Dante's Divine Comedy, Gabriel García Márquez's magical realism, the mastery of Dutch and Flemish masters, and Rembrandt.
