Robertlandy Simón again led his Lube Civitanova team to a second victory against Modena, achieved in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22) to advance to the Italian Volleyball Superleague semifinal.
Simón, considered among the best centers in the world, contributed 18 points this Wednesday, 10 of them in attacks with 83% efficiency, plus five blocks and three direct serves (aces), to become the Most Valuable Player of the match.
Another Caribbean player, Osmani Juantorena, was equally one of the cornerstones in both victories, today with 15 points (one ace) and 47% effectiveness in his performance, while in the initial challenge he contributed 17 points with 61% efficiency, two direct serves and one block, according to the CubaSp1ke page.
The other member of the Cuban luxury team, Marlon Yant, although he had limited playing time, at least took the court in the third set. In the first match he played one set, during which he scored three points (two in attacks for 29% and one block).
In the semifinal, Lube Civitanova will face Trentino, which dominated Piacenza both times.
The Itapetininga team again surprised when for the second time it defeated the favored Sada Cruzeiro —which includes Cuban Miguel Ángel López— to eliminate them from the semifinals after leading the regular calendar of the Brazilian Superleague.
The match was highly competitive, decided in tie-break after the blues dominated the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18, but their opponents managed to tie by winning the following sets 25-21 and 25-23, and sealed it 18-16.
