This Tuesday, July 25th, outstanding Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramírez (13-1, 8 KOs) achieved his thirteenth consecutive victory in the professional ring, after literally overwhelming Japanese fighter Satoshi Shimizu (11-2, 10 KOs), in the most important fight of his career.
In the co-main event of a boxing card held at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, "El Tren" dominated the bout from start to finish against an experienced 37-year-old rival who had only been defeated once. Furthermore, the Japanese fighter had advantages in reach and height over the Cuban, but these were not enough to intimidate Robeisy.
After five fought rounds but with a clear dominator in the ring, the Cuban took the victory by technical knockout and retained his World Champion title in the featherweight division of the World Boxing Organization (WBO). From the very first round, "El Tren" went after Shimizu and never stopped imposing his class and mastery on the canvas, proving he came for the victory.
By the second round, the Japanese fighter already had a damaged eye, a result of the Cuban's intense striking, while his guard remained high with solid defense. In the third round there was much more exchange in the ring and it seemed Shimizu would go on the offensive, but every time he tried to strike he found a barrier in front of him. Meanwhile, Robeisy always found ways to reach his opponent's body, constantly hurting him.
Something similar happened in the fourth round, when the Asian fighter showed even more activity, taking advantage of his better reach and height, but his punches were not landing on the Cuban. In fact, "El Tren" managed to pin his rival against the ropes at the close of the round, a prelude to what was about to come. In the fifth round, Robeisy's superiority became even greater and his punches were doing more damage to Shimizu's body.
Then came the awaited conclusion: a couple of minutes before the end of the round, a powerful combination of left and right hands from the Cuban devastated the Japanese fighter, sending him to the canvas. The referee counted for protection and sent Shimizu back into the ring, but moments later, another devastating combination from Robeisy put the Japanese fighter in bad shape and the referee decided that was enough punishment for him. The main official stopped the bout, giving Robeisy Ramírez the definitive victory by KO.
With this result, Robeisy reaffirmed himself within the elite of professional boxing worldwide and as one of the best Cuban fighters of today. Furthermore, he launched his candidacy once again for bigger fights within his division and retained his first title achieved last April, when he defeated Isaac Paredes by unanimous decision. As is known, after losing his debut, "El Tren" has now strung together 13 consecutive wins and proved he is ready for greater challenges. In passing, he debunked the campaign waged against him from the island, prohibiting him from using the Cuban flag and national anthem in his presentation.
