Complicated return of San Pablo Burgos and Cuban Jasiel Rivero in Spanish basketball

With a roster greatly affected by absences due to COVID-19, the club Hereda San Pablo Burgos, where Cuban Jasiel Rivero plays, had a complicated return to the ACB Basketball League in Spain, losing with a wide score of 78-99 against Urbas Fuenlabrada.

The Burgos team started the game well with a 25-18 advantage in the first quarter, but in the second period their rivals recovered by winning 24-15, going into halftime with a two-point difference in their favor.

After the break at Coliseum Burgos, the visiting team increased their lead with a 33-22 victory in the third quarter and 24-16 in the fourth, thus taking the win, with which they add three in this competition, along with five losses, according to the official tournament website.

For their part, the home team suffered their third defeat and second consecutive one, in a competition in which they have accumulated four wins.

In that game, which the locals played having only had one group training session and without being able to properly prepare for an official competitive match, the Burgos squad had an effectiveness of 53.1 percent in field goal attempts, with 26 baskets in 49 attempts.

They also made 11 three-pointers in 23 opportunities for a 47.8 percent; while they did poorly in free throws with 11 made out of 20 possible, for a modest 55 percent.

In the case of Fuenlabrada, they did take good advantage from the free throw line with nine makes out of 10 for a 90 percent; while they achieved a 58.7 percent in field goal attempts (37/63) and made 13 three-point shots in 27 attempts, for a percentage of 48.1.

Moving to individual performances, for the winners Marc García stood out on offense with 23 points, and Melo Trimble (20); while for the Burgos team, Dejan Kravic and Ken Horton stood out, both with 17 points, plus captain Vitor Benite (13), according to data from the Spanish basketball ACB League.

As for Cuban Rivero, who this Saturday, October 31st celebrated his 27th birthday, saw no action at Coliseum Burgos.
