Remembered Santiago Álvarez in the year of his centennial

The commemorative celebration for the centennial of documentarian Santiago Álvarez began in February with the inauguration of an exhibition in the gallery of l, located on the second floor of the School of Economics at the University of La Habana.

An extensive and varied program of activities held in Santiago de Cuba and La Habana. From March 6 to 12 in the Santiago province with the Santiago Álvarez in memoriam International Documentary Festival. In that context, the book Santiago Álvarez, a Filmmaker in Revolution was presented, the result of three research works by young people who are part of the Santiago Álvarez Film Journalism Chair.

One of the premises of the tribute has been to open the doors to paths of research on the work of the outstanding documentarian on this important date and to achieve that students feel encouraged to approach his audiovisual materials. The book had a presentation in the capital by Doctor Eusebio Leal, on March 16, in the Saturday of the Book space that takes place on Madera Street, in Plaza de Armas, La Habana Vieja.

The commemorative magazine Art and Commitment: A Century of Santiago Álvarez, had its presentation in a unique edition, within the event. The document brings together valuable testimonies from collaborators who worked with this documentary genius, as well as important personalities of Cuban culture such as Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Eusebio Leal.

The great tribute to Santiago took place on March 8, the date that marks his birth. The central activity was held in the Enrique José Varona amphitheater, sub-venue of the event in the capital, where materials dedicated to his centennial were screened.
