A little over a year after presenting himself to the world, Christian Manuel Castellano Rangel returned to the media spotlight with success in his hands: he crushed 84 beer cans in one minute with his shoulder blades.
The event took place at the Hotel Don Florencio, in Sancti Spíritus, the city of Yayabo, where 91 empty Heineken beer cans and about twenty cell phones were arranged on two tables positioned in parallel to record what could be a new Guinness World Record… and so it was.
Between the two rows advanced he and a friend, who with perfect synchronization placed the cans on his back without stopping. At the sound of the referee's whistle closing the minute, only seven candidates remained without losing their shape.
"Many people had told me it wouldn't be easy because I had as a precedent the record of American Fabrizio Milito, who managed to crush 69 cans in the same time," said the 21-year-old from Sancti Spíritus.
However, months of preparation and self-confidence gave victory to this self-taught athlete, who today ranks, according to publications on the subject, number one in the world in this curious specialty.
"I am very grateful to all the people who believed in me, especially my friends Yandy and Damián, who is like my brother. This is just beginning: expect more from me," he said emotionally, seconds after achieving the record.
A man of few words, this native of Sancti Spíritus who stands 1.91 meters tall and is in excellent physical condition, recalls that it was due to the encouragement of his classmates in junior high school that he discovered the strength of his shoulder blades, thanks to the hypermobility that his joints and ligaments present, a condition typical of dancers and high-performance athletes, according to specialized bibliography.
"I have been training hard, always making sure not to injure my back. I run; I do planks and sit-ups. I am capable of bending my shoulders, knees, fingers and toes to unexpected positions and I don't feel pain," adds this impressive contortionist.
