Silvio Rodríguez Receives Gold Medal at International Music and Dance Festival of España

May 11, 2019

The renowned Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez was the deserving recipient of the Gold Medal awarded by the International Music and Dance Festival of Úbeda, Spain, in an emotional encounter with organizers and members of the Festival and attending public who had been eagerly awaiting his arrival for several days, which resulted in a prolonged standing ovation upon Silvio's arrival that lasted several minutes.

This medal has also been received by figures such as Alicia Alonso and other outstanding artists and intellectuals, and constitutes the greatest honor bestowed by this important event.

In the presence of Diego Martínez, president of the Festival, and Antonia Olivares, Mayor of Úbeda, Silvio thanked the gesture and expressed, among several anecdotes, his visit to it in the times when he was accompanied by the Afrocuba group, without even imagining that one day he would receive such a high honor from its organizers.

Among them, Diego Martínez stands out, a musician with an extensive career and tireless cultural work who has visited our country on numerous occasions and collaborated with various Cuban artists who have participated in the Festival.

Precisely in this edition, virtuoso guitarist Joaquin Clerch performed on the 4th, and this same evening the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba will perform with Niurka González and Silvio Rodríguez as guests, as part of the same touring circuit through several Spanish cities that has brought them to the Iberian peninsula.

Today will be an open-air concert in the bullring of this hot city and will begin at 22:00, regarding which its organizers have confirmed that all tickets are sold out.
