The former Cuban high jumper Javier Sotomayor received this Monday the Sports Legend award, during the gala celebrated by the prestigious Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
At the gala held at the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, in the city of Barcelona, more than 800 personalities linked to the world of sports participated and it served to recognize notable figures in 13 categories.
An outstanding career, in which he established the current world record in the specialty, supported the designation of the also known as the Prince of Heights in the section reserved for great athletes, and which a year ago fell to the legendary American long jumper Bob Beamon.
The prestigious publication recognized motorcyclist Marc Márquez and footballer Jenni Hermoso, both from ESPAÑA, as the best athletes during the last year.
