The prestigious Cuban actress of cinema, theater, and television Eslinda Núñez received the Coral Prize of Honor during the opening of the 44th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

Núñez, National Film Prize winner in 2011, expressed feeling moved by such a high honor that the institutions linked to cinema in Cuba bestowed upon her.

The Coral of Honor means a lot to me because I have been involved with this medium for a long time, she said.

The artist recounted that since she was 17 years old she visited movie theaters and that there, facing the big screen, she dreamed of making films.

She affirmed that life gave her that unexpected surprise, which currently makes her look to the past and think that she has been rewarded.

Finally, she thanked the organizers of the Festival and the Cuban public who have always expressed so much affection toward her.

Her performances in the films El otro Cristóbal (1962), by Armand Gatti; Lucía, by Humberto Solás, and Memorias del subdesarrollo, by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea—both from 1968—and La primera carga al machete (1969), by Manuel Octavio Gómez, as well as in telenovelas and other dramatizations, are unforgettable.
