Carlos Acosta has been awarded this week with the British Circle of Critics Prize for Services to the Arts of 2018. He thus becomes the third dancer to win the high distinction of the United Kingdom's performing arts scene.
This is a distinction that only Alicia Markova in 2000 and Matthew Bourne in 2016 had obtained, which makes him the third dancer to receive it.
The prize consists of an engraved pink crystal bowl, and it was presented to him by Mark Shenton, president of the Circle of Critics, during a lunch held at the National Liberal Club in London, attended by important personalities from the performing arts.
The President of the Dance section of the Circle of Critics, Graham Watts, stated that Carlos Acosta has been a pioneer throughout his career, which adds to the opinions of other critics, who consider him the best dancer of his generation and one of the best of all time.
