One of the great legends of Cuban baseball during his National Series era is, without a doubt, Antonio Pacheco. Known as "The Captain of Captains," he played 22 domestic championships and was a key piece of the national team from 1983 to 2001.

After his retirement as an active player, he pursued a career as a manager. He won three national titles with his native province Santiago de Cuba and went on to manage the Cuba team at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. After a few more years on the island, he decided to emigrate with his family to the United States.

For several years he has been linked to the New York Yankees organization, but few know what role he holds within the franchise and how things are going for the former Cuban baseball star.

Fellow former Cuban player Yoval Dueñas contacted us and provided us with an interesting video published by the SoloBaseball_ channel on the YouTube platform dedicated to the incorporation of players Jasson Domínguez and Osvaldo Cabrera into the so-called voluntary training sessions.

In it you can see both players in different defensive training sessions and in several moments we observe Antonio Pacheco functioning as a coach.

Yoval Dueñas spoke about Antonio Pacheco's role in New York Yankees

In addition to the video, Yoval Dueñas told us that Antonio Pacheco serves as the defensive coordinator. He also made it known that the Santiago native is very well ranked within the organization.

Antonio Pacheco arrived in the United States in 2014 after abandoning a contract managed by the Cuban Baseball Federation. And since his arrival in Tampa he joined the Yankees as a coach in their farm system.

Little by little he has gained importance and today he is very recognized and appreciated by his teammates.
