Cuban troubadour Ray Fernández, known as "Ray Tun Tun," says he was assaulted in Havana's Vedado neighborhood, an attack that he says left him with fractures to his skull and face and cost him several teeth. The singer-songwriter shared the news in social media messages that the outlets Cuba Noticias 360 and Cuba Bajo Lupa reported on October 16.

According to a conversation Fernández had with guitarist Dagoberto Pedraja, which Pedraja later shared publicly, the attack happened around 7 a.m. about two blocks from the singer's home, near the Centro Vasco. "I'm already back on my feet and ready to fight," Fernández wrote, thanking people for their support and saying he hopes to return to the stage soon. The exact date of the attack has not been made public.

No details have emerged so far about who attacked him or the medical care he received, and authorities have not commented publicly on the case.

Born in Havana in 1971, Ray Fernández wrote songs such as "Lucha tu yuca, taíno," "Matarife" and "El gerente," and his album "Paciencia," recorded for EGREM, was a Cubadisco nominee. He is known for his long-running Thursday gig at the Diablo Tun Tun room of the Casa de la Música in Miramar.
