Randy Arozarena's 33-Game On-Base Streak Nears Historic Mark Among Cuban-Born MLB Players

Cuban outfielder Randy Arozarena carried a 33-game on-base streak into this week's series against the New York Yankees, the longest active streak by a Seattle Mariners player since Robinson Canó reached 34 games in 2016.

The mark by the Pinar del Río native, born in Mantua on February 28, 1995, also ties him for sixth on the all-time list of longest single-season on-base streaks by a Cuban-born player in MLB history, according to statistics released by the Mariners' media relations office. Ahead of him are Houston's Yordan Álvarez, who reached 36 games between March and May 2023, and the late Minnesota Twins slugger Tony Oliva, who also reached 36 games back in 1970.

Arozarena homered against the Yankees on both August 11 and August 12, 2026, in New York, extending a season in which he has combined power and plate discipline for the Mariners, the team he joined in a mid-2024 trade from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Arozarena left Cuba in 2015 after playing for Vegueros de Pinar del Río in Cuba's National Series, and established himself in the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2019 before headlining a historic 2020 postseason with the Rays, in which he set the record for most home runs in a single postseason and was named American League Championship Series MVP.
