Cuban outfielder Randy Arozarena of the Seattle Mariners was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to Saturday, June 13.
The injury occurred during the third inning of Friday's game against the Washington Nationals, when Arozarena awkwardly landed on first base while trying to leg out a ground ball. Initially considered day-to-day, the Cuban slugger underwent an MRI that revealed more inflammation than expected, prompting the team to place him on the IL.
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said he does not expect Arozarena to need more than the 10-day minimum.
Through 71 games in the 2026 season, Arozarena has been the Mariners' most productive position player, leading the team in batting average (.291), hits (76), runs scored (47), doubles (18), stolen bases (19), and bWAR (2.6), with an .826 OPS and seven home runs. The timing of the injury is particularly significant as Arozarena is playing in a contract year.
In corresponding roster moves, the Mariners selected the contract of outfielder Curtis Washington Jr. from the High-A Everett AquaSox, and moved infielder Will Wilson (fractured left thumb) to the 60-day IL to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Outfielder Connor Joe was also recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and is expected to join the roster on Wednesday.
Arozarena's placement on the IL came on the same day the Mariners activated catcher Cal Raleigh and shortstop J.P. Crawford from the injured list.
