Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena received just moments ago an important award from the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA), as he was presented with the 2021 Outstanding Rookie, popularly known as Rookie of the Year, in this case in the American League.

Although certainly the winners (Jonathan India was the victor for the National League) were announced on November 15, 2021, this afternoon-evening of May 13 was when the honor reached Arozarena's hands.

For the Rays this was the fourth time they have had a debut player awarded as the best rookie of the season, as previously Evan Longoria (2008), Jeremy Hellickson (2011) and Wil Myers (2013) were winners of the same representing the Tampa Bay franchise.

The Pinareno outfielder won the award (with 22 votes for first place and 124 points) over Luis García (2/63), Wander Franco (2/30) and fellow Cuban José Adolis García (3/27).

Randy Arozarena had a 2021 of 32 doubles and 20 home runs, 69 RBIs and 94 runs scored, plus 20 stolen bases and a line of 274/356/815 (AVE/OBP/SLG) in 141 games played and 529 at bats.

With those numbers Randy became the first Cuban player with National Series experience with a 20-20 season (home runs and stolen bases).
