Cuban artist Rachel Valdés will inaugurate her first solo exhibition "Pools" at La Cometa Gallery in Madrid this Thursday, May 4th, at 5 p.m.
Rachel Valdés has centered this exhibition around the immense empty swimming pools of Havana, featuring a total of 21 pieces including watercolors, digital drawings and photographs accompanied by a sound installation that reproduces the sound of a downpour.
"Pools" is a project that the Cuban artist has been working on for more than 10 years and that was born from her experiences in Cuba during the 1990s. This will be her first solo exhibition in the Spanish capital.
Since 2019 the young artist had announced on her social networks that "Pool Series" would be her next work, and that it was a project she had been developing for some time while she shared details of sketches and finished works.
The project has obviously had to wait a few years to see the light, perhaps due to the busy schedule of the Cuban artist who is making her way forcefully in the Spanish art scene.
Known for her large artistic installations, Rachel Valdés surprised with "Eternity" in April 2022 creating a large work in a well-known Madrid clothing store that could be enjoyed for a month.
That same year, she was in charge of creating the visuals that were seen on the stage of Spanish musician and artist's partner Alejandro Sanz's tour "Sanz en vivo".
Within the trail of successes that accompanied the artist last year, people from Seville were also able to enjoy her art which was exhibited under the name "The Power of Presence". This time she presented large-format works from different series such as Land, exhibited in Miami in 2021.
"Pools" can be visited between May 4th and June 16th. The pieces, made in different techniques such as photography, watercolor, digital drawings and others, will coincide with a sound installation that reproduces the sound of a downpour.
