Book About Singer Beatriz Márquez to Be Published

The book Musicalísima. Beatriz Márquez, a Journey of Memories will pay tribute to the National Music Prize winner, one of the most recognized voices on the Island, in a text that summarizes the artistic trajectory of the renowned singer.

Journalist Jaime Masó Torres, author of the text that will be published under the Ediciones Cubanas de Artex imprint, explores the musical influences of the artist, both from friends and family members, as well as the beginnings of her professional career with the group Los Barbas.

Through interviews and testimonies from personalities in Cuban music and culture, the book covers several moments in the career of "La Musicalísima." Among those offering their experiences and opinions about the singer are figures such as Leo Brouwer, Marta Valdés, Rey Montesinos, Paquito D' Rivera, Miguel Barnet, Tony Pinelli and Gerardo Alfonso, among others.

Through previously unpublished photos and other archival materials, the text recalls the triumphs achieved by Beatriz Márquez at the Adolfo Guzmán Song Festival, performances inside and outside Cuba and other relevant events from an artistic career spanning more than fifty years.

Born on February 17, 1952 and daughter of singer and composer René Márquez, the artist received the National Music Prize in 2015. In the words of poet Nancy Morejón, she is "a singer of singular timbre, a composer and a musician of category who has traveled through the most diverse paths of the repertoire not only national to have laid the foundations of an irreversible career."
