The renowned television director and documentary filmmaker Marilú Macía has just realized her dream of paying tribute to Verónica Lynn (Pinar del Río, 1931) in her new work Ellas y yo, produced by RTV Comercial.

Actors and directors from various media, as well as former students of the Instituto Superior de Arte (now Universidad de las Artes), share in front of the camera all the experiences lived in their professional relationships with Verónica, a tireless creator of characters in theater, film, and television.

This is the case of Mirtha González, director of a television version of Aire Frío, where the documentary's protagonist, after playing Luz Marina many times, had to interpret the mother of this character due to age reasons.

Jorge Alonso Padilla discusses the complexity of roles that Verónica has taken on in more than one telenovela, not forgetting actresses Isabel Santos and Diana Rosa Suárez, who testify with gratitude both toward the woman and toward the friend and actress.

Regarding Luisa María Jiménez, she confessed to feeling tremendous terror when acting alongside her, since in addition to her own inexperience before an established actress, her Tojosa was truly convinced by the rectitude and cruelty of that Doña Teresa in the telenovela Sol de batey (1985).

When referring to the title of the audiovisual, Marilú Macía stated exclusively to the Agencia Cubana de Noticias that Ellas y yo arises from the way Verónica refers to her female characters such as Camila, Fortunata, Luz Marina, among others, giving each one a vital reason that does not seem to come from fiction.

The documentary contains confessions that pay tribute to the experienced actress's own life history, not forgetting her great love and professional partner, Pedro Álvarez.

An hour in duration, archival images rescued from various sources, the lucidity and cheerfulness of Verónica Lynn, plus an extensive list of guests, make Ellas y yo a kind of historical document for future generations.

Personalities from the performing arts such as Carlos Celdrán, Alden Knight, Fernando Hechavarría, and young people like Alicia Hechavarría and Denys Ramos complete the list of guests that leave no doubt regarding the transcendence of the director of the Trotamundos project.

Photography direction was handled by Alberto Inerariti, who has worked on other works by Marilú such as Habitantes Inmóviles, about José Villa Soberón, Cuando convives con el enemigo, and the documentary Flora, dedicated to Flora Fong.

For fans of the regular program Cuando una mujer, presented by Tamara Castellanos, the television director clarified that due to production complexities and the impact of COVID-19, they have not been able to film new programs, but it will return when possible, even with changes that will make it more attractive.

Macía concluded by expressing her desire to premiere Ellas y yo in a spacious venue, where friends and the general public can honor Verónica Lynn as she deserves, and for that we must wait for the reality of the pandemic to permit it, with discipline and compliance with sanitary measures.
