The 2020 National Humor Prize was awarded to the renowned artist Juana Bacallao (Neris Amelia Martínez Salazar) and to cartoonist, illustrator and painter Arístides Hernández (Ares), by unanimous decision of the jury.
The news was reported in the Twitter account of the Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas, an institution that, together with the Centro Promotor del Humor, and with the collaboration of the Ministerio de Cultura and the Uneac, convene the prize.
Journalist Pedro de la Hoz has said about Juana Bacallao: "It delights us even with surprise, but one must take it seriously, for being unique, unrepeatable, inimitable."
Ares has taught courses and lectures on graphic humor in various countries. The multi-awarded artist, this year, was the winner of the Grand Prize of the International UYACC 2020 Anticoronavirus Competition, held in China.
