Actress and presenter Camila Arteche celebrated the awarding of Best Short Film of the Year for the audiovisual work "A Small Cut," in which she participates as an actress and associate producer.
Through her Instagram profile, Arteche reported that "yesterday was the presentation of the best works at the 9th edition of the FilmGate Festival, where my director Mariana Serrano had already won the #womensdirectormonth2022 and now we're taking home the Best Short Film of the Year award with A Small Cut."
Mariana Serrano presents a 15-minute short film about a six-year-old girl who faces a violent reaction based on culturally imposed beauty standards after cutting her hair.
In an interview with the Miami Dade College student newspaper, Serrano commented that this film "really has a lot to do with culture and identity. I hope that will be the big takeaway for the audience."
For her part, Camila Arteche assured that she felt "so proud to have been part of this project, its purpose and its message" and also congratulated the entire team that participated in the creation of this audiovisual work.
"A Small Cut" won the award in the Best of the Best selection, a stage of FilmGate where the winning works from previous editions are gathered.
The FilmGate Festival is a monthly short film event in Florida, created to celebrate local culture, diversity, and regional creativity.
Each month of the year, FilmGate Miami celebrates Florida's community of actors, filmmakers, and audiovisual production studios through short films, documentaries, music videos, and web series from Florida or created by a citizen of this state that are 20 minutes or less in duration.
