"Forever Formell," First International Timba Festival from August 2-4 in La Habana

May 16, 2019

In the context of Los Van Van's 50 years, the renowned orchestra will celebrate the first International Timba Festival "Forever Formell", in tribute to the founder of the "Cuban music train".

From August 2-4, coinciding with Juan Formell's birthday, the event will take place and will include a theoretical program with conferences and workshops on the work of the outstanding musician and composer in the chair that bears his name at the University of the Arts (ISA).

The groups participating in the festival will perform on stages such as El Sauce, areas surrounding the Havana Malecón and the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune.

The festival, and other actions that the group will carry out during this year, will be part of the campaign for the 50th anniversary of its founding, which began on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, when Los Van Van turned 49 years old making Cuba and the world dance, reported Samuel Formell, director of Los Van Van, at the end of last year.

Other initiatives will be national tours and concerts in which a compilation of the entire discography of the group will be put up for sale, at prices accessible to the population, produced by the Company of Recordings and Musical Editions (EGREM).

The campaign also includes the creation of material in DVD format and a new video clip on a song from their most recent phonographic production Legado, as well as the recording of a double album in which Cuban musicians who passed through the group and foreign artists who have collaborated with it since its founding will participate.
