Sports journalist Julita Osendi settles in the U.S.

August 15, 2023

Cuban sports journalist Julita Osendi, former reporter for the National News and Cuba's most important sporting events, settled in the United States a little over a month ago, as confirmed by her in an interview.

Osendi had been seen this week on her social media from Florida and later, with photos from Las Vegas, the news exploded across all independent media outlets. On August 10th, the controversial reporter, ardent defender of Industrialism, said she felt happy to "share with such lovely people" in her new country.

"Las Vegas, the city of sin, sin is not knowing it. My nephews, my friends… We're together again," wrote the former reporter who was close to power on the island.

Later, in statements to the CiberCuba website, Osendi confirmed what everyone suspected, that she was staying permanently in the United States, although on other occasions she had visited and always returned to the island. But not this time.

The communicator revealed that she arrived in the United States "sponsored by one of my sons, Henry, who has been asking me to come for a long time. I arrived a month ago." Osendi clarified that she was settled with her family in the Cape Coral area in Florida.

"My son Henry has been insisting for many years for me to leave and I kept putting him off. But now truly the oxygen has been escaping from Cuba and you can't breathe," she added.

Osendi spoke about the "repetitive discourse of Cuban authorities" to blame the country's problems on the same things. And she commented on the shortage of medicines, the lack of food, the prices and stated that "really it can't go on like this."
