Cuban long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarría will participate in the track and field event that Madrid, Spain will host, scheduled to take place on the 24th.

For Echevarría, indoor world champion from Birmingham 2018 and bronze medalist from Doha 2019, it will be the last competition in his quest to establish himself at the top of the indoor circuit in his event.

In the Spanish capital, the athlete from the province of Camagüey will attempt to achieve his third title of the present season, after winning at the meets in Karlsruhe, Germany, on January 29th, and in Lievin, France, on February 9th.

His debut in German territory he celebrated with a mark of 8.18 meters (m); while on French soil he raised his personal record for the current year to 8.25 m, which places him second on the long jump list, only behind American Isaac Grimes (8.33 m), according to the official World Athletics website.

With those results, Cuba's representative leads the indoor circuit with 20 points, thanks to his victories in two of the golden phases of the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2021.

After competing in Madrid, Echevarría, champion at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, will continue his preparation with an eye toward the Tokyo Olympic Games, where he will be one of the contenders for the crown in the long jump.
