Willy Chirino had already presented last March the first single from his new album, titled Yo soy cubano, which was a duet with Puerto Rican salsa singer Gilberto Santa Rosa. The author of the famous salsa album Oxígeno, surprised his followers in May by announcing that his second single would be a duet with Leoni Torres.
Yesterday, Friday, June 18, Willy Chirino and Leoni Torres premiered the song "Para mi viejo" as an emotional gift to celebrate Father's Day this Sunday.
"Here you have it! Enjoy it! And celebrate your old man every day" is the message with which Chirino shared a link to the video posted on his Youtube profile, where the song could be heard exclusively hours before the official premiere of the clip on the same platform.
Leoni stated in an Instagram video: "That Willy thought of me to record this song has a very big meaning, it's something very very special and something that I will be grateful for my whole life" says Leoni after a short video in which part of the melody could be heard.
The song is a tribute to the legacy of fathers, to the happiness of having them alive or to the gratitude for the path traveled alongside them, as well as to the pride that comes from recognizing them in oneself. The theme combines the best of the danceable rhythms of both Cuban singers with their moving lyrics and a beautiful music video, in which photos from the family album of both performers appear.
This third Sunday in June Cubans will celebrate Father's Day, and two of the best performers of Cuban music have wanted to put a soundtrack to such a special date: for those who have the blessing of being able to celebrate it with their fathers, for those who will do it from a distance and also for those who will live the day with the bittersweet feeling of continuing to love them despite having lost them, those whose "legacy is the experiences", as the song goes.
