In just ten days, Cuban singer Jorge Soto Papushi will have to compete, along with other performers, for the 2025 World Tejano Awards with his song "Te digo adiós", released in February 2024.
The 38-year-old from Holguín is one of five nominees in the Cumbia Pop Song of the Year category. In the fifth edition of the event, which will take place in the U.S. city of San Antonio, Texas, Papushi will defend his original song, the first single from the album El Rey del Tex-Mex.
"Te digo adiós" tells the story of a love relationship in which one of the two decides to give up for the good of both as a result of the distance that separated them, the singer details.
According to Prensa Latina, among the candidates for the award to be presented at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium are cultivators of that genre. Among them are Mexican Amanda Solís, Texas singer Tarasco Tropical along with Mexican Lee Valentine and tejano Príncipe Q. In addition, tejana Jenny B and Dj Kane, also from the United States, are included.
According to Juventud Rebelde, this is not the first time that Papushi has represented tejano musical culture, as he gained prominence in recent years thanks to other songs of his within that genre, when he paid tribute to Selena Quintanilla.
For its part, Pista Cubana assures that this nomination is not a surprise for the young performer, who since last year has been heard on Texas radio, where he is part of hit lists specialized in that music, such as "Te digo adiós", in the Top10 of Tejano TV.
