The suspense novel that premiered on Netflix last April 20th, the series has everything to make you not want to miss a single detail. Pálpito not only features the stellar participation of Cuban actress Jacqueline Arenal, but is headlined by the well-known Michel Brown and Ana Lucía Domínguez, who compete for each other's love with the antagonistic Sebastián Martínez.
The Cuban actress celebrated the success of her series Pálpito (The Marked Heart, in English) on the Netflix streaming platform.
"Very, but very excited with this news: Pálpito, our Netflix series, has been declared the most-watched non-English language series globally in its first week of premiere," Arenal said this Tuesday on Facebook.
"With a total of 68 million hours watched, it entered the Top 10 in 68 countries, ranking first in 20 of them. Simply GRATEFUL," she added.
The plot of this new series does not have just a love story. In the script, which also includes touches of horror and suspense, it addresses the delicate and sad issue of organ trafficking, a theme that promises to push the emotions of viewers to the limit during the 14 chapters of what is so far the first and only season.
According to the star of the series, Colombian Ana Lucía Domínguez, whom Cubans know for her participation in Telemundo and Univisión novels such as Pasión de Gavilanes and Perro amor, the issue of the human organ market had never been addressed so thoroughly as it is in Pálpito.
For his part, the also very popular Michel Brown opined that at the premiere of the telenovela one must analyze whether it is truly certain that love and emotions for a couple or a family member are sufficient to serve as motives in situations as sinister as those shown here.
It is a story where Simón's wife (Michel Brown) is murdered to take her heart and transplant it to the woman of a powerful millionaire (Sebastián Martínez). In search of revenge, Simón throws himself into the dangerous world of organ trafficking, but in his search and desperation he ends up falling in love with Camila (Ana Lucía Domínguez), the millionaire's wife who survived thanks to the heart of his murdered wife.
As for Jacqueline Arenal's character, the Cuban delivers one of the first performances within the story and brings to life a character that, although secondary, has strong ties with the protagonists and is essential within the series.
Pálpito is part of the list of Latin American productions signed by Netflix, and it takes into account a mix of countries where Colombians dominate, with original music by Carlos Vives, but it also includes the Cuban Jacqueline Arenal, Argentine Michel Brown, and Venezuelan Leonardo Padrón, a renowned writer and screenwriter.
