The Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés announced that he will offer a concert at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana on September 7th in tribute to the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban capital.
According to a statement from the artist's office, Milanés will take a tour through classic songs from his work, from Para Vivir and Ya ves, belonging to the 1960s, to some of his current compositions.
Of course, he will also sing classics such as Yolanda, Años or De qué callada manera (Canción), along with other works that have been part of the soundtrack of Cubans for some time now.
During the concert titled Mi Habana, Milanés will be accompanied by fellow musicians from various generations who have shared and inherited a good part of his musical conceptions, according to the press release.
It will be a concert in which the sonority of jazz will predominate, so influential and present in Pablo's work, it states.
Milanés is a founder of the Nueva Trova Cubana along with Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola, his compositions added a touch of feeling to that movement and he has recorded 40 solo albums, plus a large number of collaborations with other artists and collective albums.
The Latin Recording Academy in the United States awarded the popular singer-songwriter an Honorary Latin Grammy in 2015.
In Cuba, the complete collection of his work was published the year before, which brought together 50 albums recorded from the 1970s until 2015.
Right now, the artist awarded in Spain with the Gramola de Oro Prize 2018 is working on two projects: an album of American jazz standards and another salsa album with fundamental songs in his discography.
Meanwhile, the singer's youngest daughter, Haydée Milanés, also a vocalist, is putting the finishing touches on the deluxe edition of the album Amor, which contains 11 songs written by her father, performed by him as a duet with her, based on orchestrations proposed by the young musician.
In the deluxe phonogram, in tribute to the composer, the Mexicans Julieta Venegas and Lila Down, the Brazilian Chico Buarque, the Argentine Fito Páez, the Cubans Omara Portuondo and Pancho Céspedes, among other artists, participate.
