The Special Prize La Bella Cubana was conferred this year on composer Marta Valdés by the jury of the Organizing Committee of the White Prize 2022 of the Music branch of Uneac in Matanzas.

Radio 26 reported that the jury was made up of maestros José Antonio Méndez, María Victoria Oliver and Raúl Valdés, who in this 23rd edition of the event recognized the performer for being a defender of Cuban songwriting and such important genres as filin and bolero.

Musicologist María Victoria Oliver noted that Marta is a composer and guitarist deeply cherished by the people of Matanzas.

She has dedicated several works to the city, which she described as "the city the world was missing," among which stand out the danzón Al octavo día and the songs José Jacinto and Estampa matancera.

The National Prize winner for Music, in the jury's opinion, stands out for her way of being and creating, which as she herself has expressed reflects our land, a mine of music, a crucible where only what is capable of being assimilated is melted to drive firm steps on the path of what will come to bear fruit as ours.

This recognition, together with the White Prize that is awarded for the life's work of musicians from Matanzas, will be presented on December 8th in a special gala at the José White Concert Hall, added the provincial station. (ALH)
