Miami-based singer Osmani García "La Voz" said during a livestream that he was unable to travel to Cuba for the burial of a cousin who died in Havana after giving birth. "My own cousin, I couldn't go bury her," the reggaeton artist said, according to the outlets Cuba en Miami and Árbol Invertido.
In his account, his cousin went to Havana's Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital to give birth while she had pneumonia. García said there were no resources to give her an X-ray and that she died after a C-section without ever meeting her baby. The medical details are the singer's version; the hospital and health authorities have not commented publicly on the case.
García blamed his absence on restrictions that, he says, have kept him from performing in Cuba since 2014, noting he was able to sing there only once more, in 2015. He also said it pains him not to be able to visit his parents, who live in Cuba, whenever he wants. He did not say whether he tried to travel for the funeral, and Cuban authorities have not commented on his remarks.
His account comes days after singer Baby Lores said he was not allowed to fly to Havana to visit his mother, who was in intensive care.
Born in Guanabacoa in 1981, Osmani García is known for hits like "El Taxi" with Pitbull and Sensato.
