The Pinar del Río native Omar Linares is in Miami, South Florida. The "boy Linares," as many call him, is a living legend of Cuban Baseball. For many, he is the greatest ballplayer that the Cuban National Series ever saw.
Omar played 20 of them in Cuban baseball. There he connected 2,195 hits in 5,962 at-bats, averaging a dazzling .368 batting average.
There has always been, and still is, controversy about how much he would have accomplished if he had made it to the Major Leagues. Others comment on the fact that it was easier to hit the ball with an aluminum bat. The truth is that the Pinar del Río native was an outstanding player.
In more than fifteen years with the National Team, Omar Linares conquered all the titles awarded by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF). These include two Olympic gold medals (Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996). He also won a silver medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The stellar former Cuban Baseball player was at a car dealership called AutoNation Chevrolet Doral. Humbertico Monier himself posted a photo on his Instagram with Omar Linares which he titled: "Living legend in the house."
"Who's better to see? This one or the other?.. I don't know who's the best. What I do know is that it's December and we have to clear out the car lot before the year ends... In other words, rock bottom prices, the approval you wanted. The car you want at a price you can afford… If not, ask the boy Linares," he concluded.
Clearly, Humbertico took advantage of the ex-athlete's visit to launch his commercial advertising for the end of the year.
It's good to see Omar Linares with such a carefree smile as the one he shows in the photo. Precisely him who throughout his sports career filled an entire nation with joy to see him play.
