Master Leo Brouwer, one of the essential names in the field of academic music, was named Cultural Ambassador of the Instituto Latino de la Música, founded in Mexico City in 1921.
The institution joins the celebrations for the artist's 80th birthday, who has made a milestone in the universal history of the guitar, as a performer and composer, in addition to his work as an orchestra conductor and author of scores for various formats.
It was also announced that in January the thirty-fourth International Classical Guitar Competition Andrés Segovia, in Granada, Spain, will pay tribute to Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
The competition (for musicians up to 35 years old) will include among the mandatory performance pieces La Espiral Eterna, by Brouwer, and in the final test his Toronto Concerto for guitar and orchestra.
